Welcome to Your AI Insights: Exploring Diversity and Meritocracy in Hiring

Hey ― Rouge here. Welcome to the Mama Bear’s Newsletter! You're receiving this email because you signed up through my LinkedIn profile.

I'm here to do 2 things for you:

  1. Explore what's going on in AI, and share with you in plain simple English, how to take part in this revolution without an engineering degree.

  2. Show you how to enter the AI space without a technical background.

Some context: I moved to the US five years ago and landed a job at Meta. However, I was laid off during the first wave of layoffs in 2022. We all know how challenging the job market has been since then. While searching for my next job, I am embarking on this journey with you to stay on top of trends and help each other learn about Gen AI.

If any of that resonates with you, let’s stick together!

Some housekeeping:

AI RECRUITING
Silicon Valley's Shift to Meritocracy: Can AI Enhance Diversity?

Nancy Xu, CEO of Moonhub, suggests using AI to improve diversity by uncovering overlooked talent. AI can reduce human biases and identify exceptional candidates beyond traditional networks, such as state schools or non-Silicon Valley locations. Xu's AI-driven methods aim to find diverse talent by broadening search criteria and integrating various data sources, showcasing that excellence can come from unexpected places.

Mama Bear’s perspective,  recruiters often overlook the person behind the resume due to their heavy workloads and the pressure to quickly satisfy hiring managers. This rush to meet demands can lead to a narrow focus on familiar qualifications and backgrounds, inadvertently perpetuating biases. Implementing AI-driven tools can help expand the talent pool and ensure that more diverse candidates are considered, ultimately benefiting both companies and job seekers by promoting a more inclusive hiring process. Of course, not every AI tool is good but Moonhub has a reasonable approach that can be appreciated.
