Metaās policy shift on AI chats

Read time: under 5 minutes
Welcome back, Cubsš». AI is in every part of our lives, from science and social to tools and daily communication across apps, including Metaās plan to use your AI chats to personalize ads.
Today: a McGill breakthrough that spots hidden disease signals in single cells, a YouTube analyzer prompt to help you skim tutorials, and an in-person social event for San Diego residents.
AI SCIENCE
āDOLPHINā spots hidden disease signals in single cells

Source: McGill Newsroom
Scientists at McGill built DOLPHIN, an AI tool that looks inside single cells with much more detail than usual. Instead of treating each gene as one number, it checks the smaller pieces that make up genes, which helps it spot āhiddenā warning signs. In pancreatic cancer data, it flagged 800+ potential markers and could tell higher-risk cases from lower-risk ones. That means better chances of catching problems earlier and matching people to the right treatments.
Think of it like upgrading from a blurry photo to HD. With a clearer view of what is happening inside cells, doctors and researchers can make smarter decisions and waste less time. If this approach works at larger scale and in more diseases, it could even help test drug ideas on realistic digital cell models before lab work.
Why this matters
Earlier detection, smarter matching: More precise cell readouts help clinicians catch disease earlier and match patients to therapies with fewer trial-and-error gambles.
Richer biology, better decisions: Exon-level signals capture alternative splicing and other fine-grained changes that often drive severity and drug response.
AI CHAT
Meta will use your AI chats to personalize ads

Source: Tech Crunch
Starting December 16, 2025, Meta will fold data from your interactions with Meta AI into the ad-targeting machine behind Facebook and Instagram. If you ask the chatbot about hiking boots, donāt be shocked when hiking ads follow you. The policy also covers other AI features, including Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses inputs (voice, photos, video analyzed with AI), the new Vibes AI video feed, and Imagine for image generation. Thereās no opt-out, and it applies globally except in the EU, UK, and South Korea, where privacy rules block it. Meta says conversations about sensitive topics like health, religion, politics, or sexual orientation wonāt be used for ads.
What this means for you
Assume anything you type to Meta AI can tune your ads on Facebook and Instagram after Dec 16, 2025. Thereās no opt-out, and rollouts start with notices around Oct 7. Exceptions: EU, UK, South Korea.
Chats influence ads only if youāre logged into the same Meta account across products. If you must use it, consider a burner account for experimentation.
Meta says it will exclude sensitive topics like health, politics, religion, and sexual orientation from targeting, but treat that like ādo not enterā tape at a festival. Itās there. Crowds still wander.
Pre-Dec 16 chats wonāt be used for targeting, according to reporting. After that date, assume new interactions can be signal fodder.
Using Ray-Ban Meta glasses, Vibes, or Imagine? Their AI inputs can also feed targeting. Keep that in mind before narrating your shopping list to eyewear.
If you donāt want your AI small talk turning into ad fuel, the practical move is simple and annoying: donāt use Meta AI, or silo it from your main account.
PROMPT OF THE WEEK
YouTube Analyzer
You are an expert video analyst. Given this YouTube video link: [insert link here], perform the following steps:
Access and accurately transcribe the full video content, including key timestamps for reference.
Deeply analyze the video to identify the core message, main concepts, supporting arguments, and any data or examples presented.
Extract the essential knowledge points and organize them into a concise, structured summary (aim for 300-600 words unless specified otherwise).
For each major point, explain it using 1-2 clear analogies to make complex ideas more relatable and easier to understand (e.g., compare abstract concepts to everyday scenarios).
Provide a critical analysis section: Discuss pros and cons, different perspectives (e.g., educational, ethical, practical), public opinions based on general trends, and any science/data-backed facts if applicable.
If relevant, include a customizable step-by-step actionable framework derived from the content.
End with memory aids like mnemonics or anchors for better retention, plus a final verdict or calculation (e.g., efficiency score or key takeaway metric).
Output everything in a well-formatted response with Markdown headers for sections. Ensure the summary is objective, accurate, and spoiler-free if it's entertainment content.
